Workshop: Hip Hop Yoga Dance with Teri Anderson
September 14, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Hip Hop Yoga Dance celebrates the flow of yoga, the joy of movement, and the celebration of rhythm. In this class the goal is to have fun, groove out to new and old school music. You will learn basic social dance moves and find your own style. We will transform the yoga studio to a dance club through movement, music and fun. This class is for all levels of yogi’s and dancers (and non-dancers) who are open to new things and looking for a fun workout. Hip Hop is a celebration of American culture. Join us in a funky east meets west fusion!”
Our hip hop yoga dance class starts with a thorough warm up to work on body control and build core strength. Warm up is followed by a short yoga flow where we start to use rhythm to move us between postures. Then we break down the latest funk and social hip-hop moves. We will put it all together by doing some choreography. At the end of class we will stretch and cool down.
Teri Andersen began dance training at age three, which led her to pursue creative expression in many areas of her life. She continued training throughout her youth, performing in a variety of dance forms including tap, ballet, jazz, and modern dance. In high school she developed her creative skills as an artist, concentrating primarily on pottery. She received a Bachelor of Fine Art in 1999 with a focus on Ceramics. Her art has always been based on movement and choreography between the potter and the clay. Living locally with her husband (a teacher at BBA) and two daughters, Teri has been teaching art for nearly twenty years. She has been the art teacher at the Mountain School at Winhall to grades Pre-K- 8 since 2010. In 2016 Teri pursued her 200 hour certification in Yoga Teacher Training in Hip Hop Yoga Dance through Honest Yoga Center in South Burlington. Hip Hop Yoga Dance is a unique expression of dance that blends her two favorite movement types – Hip Hop and Yoga Asana (postures). Teri also holds a certification in children’s yoga through Kidding Around Yoga. Teri began offering dance at MCY in 2016 and the program has been growing ever since with students from over 6 local schools coming together every week to form new friendships and build on their dance skills. Her love of
dance and music is contagious. Teri hopes for students to find strength, confidence, and joy in their own creative expression whether it is on the potter’s wheel or on the dance floor.
The workshop is $18 (or 2 class punches) for Cobra members/$20 non-members. Please call 772-7011 or email email@example.com to register.
